Sequencer of the Day

RE: Sequencer of the Day

1999-09-15 by Dave Bradley

This looks interesting. It has several of the ideas we talked about. It has
so few panel controls, however, that I suspect you'd be digging through some
menus.

Eight outputs is awesome. I'd like to see DoMOAS have at least 4, that could
simultaneously play back different chains. Then you could toggle the front
panel to interact in real time with the chain playing on a specific output.

I would like 8 outputs. This gives me a couple of pitch lines in addition
to some CVs to control other things with those. And then 4 left to use as
triggers for kick, snare and other percussion.

It's gonna have 2 independent, 16-bit precision outputs (CV-wise). Unless I
change my mind.

Change your mind! Or suffer the consequences! Ha! Ha! Ha!

Do you want to make a WOAS? Wimp Of All Sequencers?

Resistance is futile! You *will* be assimilated!

!GBF Take that!

I think it is time for me to go to bed. Most would think me a fool to
challenge Paul and they would probably be right!

I beg your forgiveness Creator of the Electron Mutilator!

'nough.

Checksum error. Grump bit flag mismatch.

One sequencer that is quite interesting (actually, it's damn groovy) is the
Latronic Notron.

http://www.notron.com

Admittedly, unashamedly digital (midi outs only), but, it kicks ass. I know of
no other sequencer that is even close to what it can do. I looked at all of
them on the market, and decided on this one.

Well, you're the second owner of a Notron I know... (no, I'm not the other one)

I'm glad to see that they did away with the "industrial toilet seat" form
factor.

It *is* an awesome machine... But was pricey when I first looked at 'em a
year or so ago. Care to mention what the "direct to you from the UK"
pricing is?

Mark

:)

The toilet seat always made me think of an artists palette... I kept
wanting to pick it up and cradle it in my left arm... I dunno, maybe that
was a feature.

The real problem with it for me was that it would be a heck of a hard time
trying to find someplace to lay it.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

That was one of my favorite designs, right up there with the OSCar. I was so
unhappy when the current version was released.

<sniff>

And the added features of this version don't make it worth it to try and
wrangle one of the older ones from an undoubtedly happy owners' hands--there
weren't very many of the toilet seat ones, were there?

David.

About 600UKP, or ~$1000.

Worth every penny.

I do love the new form factor -- I saw pictures of the old one, and thought that it
looked unwieldy. I think that they spun a bunch of stuff into an FPGA and so were
able to save a bunch of space.

It is certainly the coolest looking thing in my studio. Last night, I had it
controlling my '420 filters (2x16 step sequencers dealing with the two filters via
an Expressionist), and the other two sequencers that it has dealing with a Waldorf
Q that I have (that was feeding the filters). Then had that whole mess going
through my Eventide DSP-4000 on a gnarly reverb/phaser patch.

sleep? why bother?

Can I take this moment to ask for a '303 filter MOTM module? You *can't* tell me
that it would be hard or parts intensive, and I just looooove the sound that that
distortion makes, and I can't quite get the sound with the '420.
