Yea, I got a comment...

What's the silver module top cabinet bottom row on the right?

Thanks!

Man, I really love seeing everyone's completed cabinets. It's been a while
now that I've been planning on - getting ready to - thinking about -
designing a layout for what will eventually be my cabinet. ; )

So... how about a module map? I'd like to see what all those modules are,
including the one that's been banished to the top right corner. : )

Re: [motm] MOTM Cabinet Image

2002-04-03 by thomas white

Well I don't know about a module map but I can give it a shot from the
image:

Top Row:

420 VCF x 3
440 VCF x 3
410 VCF x 1 (OMS-410 coming soon from Todd Faulkner! HA! HA! HA!)
rest of the top row will hold all new filters

2nd Row:

DIY Joystick Module
MOTM'ized Wiard Joyrider VCF (Borg without Oscillators)
OMS-820 Lag Compliment
820 Lag processor
Blacet Klangwerk Ring Mod
800 ADSR x 4
Blacet Time Machine
Maplin Voice Vandal

3rd Row:

320 LFO #1
300 VCO x 3
Oakley Wavefolder
120 Sub Octave Mux
Blacet Miniwave
Wiard Miniwave
Space for 310 uVCO
910 Multi
320 LFO #2

4th Row:

DIY IBM Joystick Module
DIY Roland M-181 Keyboard Breakout panel
JLH-831 Interval Switcher
101 Noise/Sample & Hold
Blacet Dark Star Chaos
700 VC Switch
850 Pedal Interface
800 ADSR x 2
110 VCA x 2
Encore UEG

Hope that helps out. Man I can't wait to get my 960 power PCB so I can fully
power up the lower cabinet and start the madness. I have never played with
my rack since I have finished my 3rd 420 and 2nd and 3rd 440's. Can't WAIT!
Soon as I get the MOTM-130 Dual VCA I'll be able to finally try polyphony
with 3 notes. Boy oh boy oh boy,

Thomas White

Arghh, my name is Thomas BTW. Todd is the guy who took money for kits and
never made good on it. He owes me $130 or a kit so you can see my
frustration.

I got the Maplin kit from the following link. It says it has been
discontinued but it also said that when I ordered mine. Try it:

http://radio.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.qkits.com%2Fpublic%2Fqkits%2Fqlt82.htm

Hope it helps out and you can get your hands on one. Only needs positive
volts and can be powered from a wall-wart if you are a guitarist. Enjoy!

Thats a MAPLIN Voice Vandal module I got from Canada somewhere. Basically it
is a digital delay/digital ring modulator wave warper and I can never kill
the carrier noise. I have been looking into shorting the Modulators IC to
cut the noise and maybe have a switch to turn it on and off at will. No luck
yet, not really been trying though either.
The thing has:

Delay Time
Delay Rate
Distortion (modulator amount)
Modulator Band select buttons (Low High etc)
Modulator Carrier Frequency
Line In
Mic In (has Pre-amp)
and Out

Cool warper for only 60 bucks and the home made panel. I actually have a
second one I plan to build into a black MOTM panel with proper knob spacing
after I figure out a couple of mods for the kit. Supposedly this kit is to
imitate Daleks and Gritty Voiced Robots from old sci-fi shows but hey! Works
great in the old MOTM

Thanks. But, I have had no luck to date. Phone calls are not being

really pisses me off because Moe and I have worked so hard to be sure that

Wow... more nice pics to drool over! : )

You mention that the finger joints are easy to make and that they are very
strong. For the woodworking newbie that I am, how do you cut the fingers?
Either side of the finger is not a problem, but how do you get to the back
side to cut it out? Also, are the fingers and glue the only thing holding the
main frame of the cabinet together?

 Thanks,
 Andrew

Two ways. The "modern" way is to use a router and router table, or a
dado on a table saw. The board is slide on it's end across the router or
dado (think of a saw blade as wide as the cut).

Now I will invoke the name of Tag Frid (Tag Frid, Tag Frid Teaches
Woodworking , (Taunton Press; 1981). A very clear introduction to
various basic woodworking joints and techniques that will be useful in
making any project.),

"In the old days..."

Actually you use a hand saw to cut the sides and a wood chisel to remove
the wood in slivers from the bottom. The above book is the bible of
joints. This book shows you don't need all those expensive noisy
machines to do wooding. Just expensive quiet hand tools :-).

tomy

Re: [motm] MOTM Cabinet

2002-04-03 by Dave Hylander

And a lot of practice and then more practice. My favorite hand joint to do
is the dove tail. The big mortice and tenon joints used in timber framing
are lots of fun, but can get a bit challenging, as making a mistake can
cost big $$.

I, for one, find it far too easy to cut the fingers -- it's the "not cutting the fingers" bit I have a problem with!

I used only glue to hold the cabinet together. The idea behind the fingerjoints is that you increase the surface area of the joint. If you just butt two boards together you glue only 1 edge and only on 1 plane so the joint isn't very strong. By using fingerjoints you not only glue 3 times the surface area but you also glue on 3 different planes giving the joints their strength.
How do you make them you ask? Well there are dozens of ways to make them and several jigs available that you can buy. Here's how I did mine using a table saw, Dado blade and a homemade jig. http://aardvark-mi.home.attbi.com/fingerjoints.htm
P.S. I added this page to my site and I was a little tired when I wrote the page so I hope it makes sense!!!

No doubt about that. My cabinets are made with simple "looking" butt
joints. But, in reality, there are dowels rods inserted and glued in every
joint (that do not show). Otherwise, I might tend to put in some of those
corner braces inside. If fact, I got some and considered it just for added
strength. But, my synth is for home (an an annual trek to AHMW). So, I
never put them in.

I don't know him personally but I also tend to be optimistic in this
