850 module question

850 module question

2001-10-24 by revtor@aol.com

Hey, does anyone know what Kind of signal comes out of Yamaha's breath controllers? Possible 850 compatiblity? Seems like it should be no problem, but I dont really know if the BC acts like a pedal-pot thingie..

Ordered my 850 and ordered my pedal, Ill have them all rigged up here sitting pretty on my shelf, minus the rest of my modular.. : (
Oh well. They're like art to me anyway.. Inspiration!

There was a lot of discussion about this subject here and on SDIY recently.
I have a text and schematic I save that Old Crow sent to the list. I will
forward them to you privately.

Not right out of the box. It was not designed for that. However, I have
been contemplating that a very small PCB and the correct size jack for
direct plug in could be added as an after-market mod. It is on my to-do
list once I get my 850. Seems like it would be easy enough. However, what
seems easy doesn't always work out that way.

I have a BC-2 for testing. I am wondering if the BC-1, 2, and 3 are
interchangeable within the Yamaha DX line where they were so often utilized.

I have both the BC-1 and 3, and both work interchangeably on the DX-7
(old) and VL-70m(new).

Re: [motm] 850 module question, yamaha breath controller schematics

Hi All !

Something weird about these controllers is that they take power
between gnd and -15v . Found this schem on the web :

http://www.liraproductions.com/Craig_Toy_Page.html

Dunno if the 850 can cope with this . Mind, i have not tried this
out, inversion and/or level shift might be needed to be of use in an
MOTM environment .

Btw, i missed a bunch o mails from the list when stupid y*h**
unsubbed me . Took me a while to wade through that mudpatch of a
website to learn my email address was nonexistant . Yeah right .
Moreover my trusty browser hickups when trying to read the mails .
And to add insult to injury, i can't seem to find a way to send
myself the missing messages . Anyone knows if this is possible at
all ? Alternatively, would anyone of you be so kind to send these to
me . Best to keep this to private mail .

Thanks a bunch .

Keep 'em oscillating :)

If you search through the past few months of posts in the archives I posted
what I measured the voltages to be. Negative voltages are there, and none of
the tip/ring/sleeve had ground on it. It isn't what it seems like it should
be. Nobody else seems to be able to confirm or deny what I measured so
apparently nobody has ever built anything for it.
