RE: Sockets for my op amps

RE: Sockets for my op amps

I just finished a 420 kit a while back
and used nice high end dip sockets on
the op amps. these are the ones with
the thicker stage and round solid pins
instead of thin flat pins. The result ?
My anal disposition to have everything just
the way I want it is satisfied - and if one
of the op amps blows I just pull and replace.

How does it affect sound ? It does not. it's
just a little extra if Ya- got some sockets
in your parts bin.

That Blacet idea is good, I have a dark star too
but I'm too freakin' lazy to take any drastic
moves from the frack rack right now. I run it
through an old passive Bruel & Kaejer bandpass
network "1610" 1/3 oct. 48db ,.....i think and
it's awsome with the MOTM 420s' on the end of the
patch output!!!! - Well happy knob tweaking to
all. P.S. The output on my 420s' were clipped
due to a cheezy amp source ,now they sound great
Thank You - Paul they are now "shortwave(ish)"
in character as they should be.

1) IC sockets are not "bad" if you use good Augat screw-machine ones. If you
want to see
what happens when you use cheapo "leaf beam" sockets, ask Steve Jobs about
the Apple III.

2) Bill's point is well taken. The '420 filter, and the upcoming '410 are
sensitive to the driving
signals. One the '410, I will have the option of adding a -6dB pad on the
front end (you provide the
resistor).
