OT: Electronic Music CDs

2001-09-05 by Tkacs, Ken

Since the mention of a Subotnick DVD, I hit the web to see what it was about. There's a DVD on Amazon.com by "M. Subotnick" with no details so I don't know if that's THE Morton Subotnick.

But then I found a site I hadn't seen before at www.cdemusic.org that I had to pass on. They have a different Mort Subotnick DVD, but in general they seem to be a great resource for CDs spanning the history of electronic music, including a lot of stuff that is out of print from other sources.

Anyone ever ordered from these folks before...?

Yes, once or twice. Appear to be very reliable and I received the
material in comparable shipping time to other cd sellers. You might want
to check out www.emf.org/aboutemf/invitation.html.

For purely analog stuff, the original SOB is very good. Sometime
after that, she began to use digital machines as on "Digital
Moonscapes" which is also very good. The boxed set is probably the
way to go, though.

ken,
forgot to cite this one, too. first hearing of this was maybe 1970 - 71 (
can`t recall for sure at this stage of my life ) on classical fm radio
station. definitely caught my "ear" as i was a "ham" at the time and knew
something about weird electronoises and such. from there, to stockhausen et
al and from more rock oriented music, king crimson ( first 3 albums are nice
) and zappa. what a long and winding road............
best,
dave
