More Polyphony

More Polyphony

2001-07-05 by thomas white

Hi guys and specifically Encore Expressionist owners,

How many voices of Polyphony could I control with one of these converters?
My Kenton has ability for 4 MOTM (or otherwise) voices. I will for sure
shoot for 4-voice action to begin with, but the long run might be looking at
8-voice.

PS. Any word about those Shemp organized OMS-410 kits anybody? Maybe Shemp
is on vacation. Are you out there buddy?

Expressionist has 8 CV outs, and 8 gate outs. CV outs can be assigned
to any midi channel, and can participate in one of two poly groups.
So you can have up to 8 voice polyphony. CV outs can also be
disconnected from key events and used for dedicated LFO outs,
monophonic velocity, expression pedal cv out, etc.

There is an OS upgrade in the works (LONG OVERDUE - NUDGE NUDGE
TONY!) If any of my nags had any influence, the upgrade MAY include
up to 8 software LFOs, ability to assign poly velocity to key groups,
and new key assign algorithms like the wonderful Obie 4/8 Voice
circular assign (relevant to our polyphonic discussion of a few days
ago.)

At any rate, no other midi/CV converter out there can do 8 note
polyphony that I'm aware of.

I can't speak for Shemp, but I can tell you that our panel
silkscreener is just back from vacation to Alaska, so we don't have
any panels for Shemp's kits yet.

I will be sending a progress note out tonight or tomorrow to everyone who
has stuff on order.
