Stooge MiniWave panels

Stooge MiniWave panels

2001-06-02 by mate_stubb@yahoo.com

Folks,

Larry is getting bombed by requests for Stooge panels for the
Wiard/Blacet MiniWave. Here is the status:

John sent me some info today which will allow me to proceed with the
panel design (thanks!)

Larry and I are in the midst of a large order already. We must decide
if it's best to stop everything and add this in, or go full speed
ahead with the current order, and start a second order for the MW
panels. I favor the latter approach. A second order would proceed
much quicker than the first did because we don't have to deal with
metal issues again.

Larry is going on vacation tomorrow, so he won't be able to reply to
messages for about a week. The lucky bastard is taking a
motorcycle trip.

I do have to make one design decision on the layout - whether to
place the LEDs in a row at the top of the module, as I did for my
Wiard version:

crummy pic)

or to place the LEDs as on the Wiard/Blacet layout:

I don't think that keeping the Blacet format will allow me to mount
the LEDs onboard the pcb, because the pcb will set back from the
panel to allow the pots to mount outboard. So you probably will have
to wire each LED separately, for either layout.

If you prefer one layout over the other, email me privately - I'll
take a mini poll.

The mini - poll for the new Mini-Wave layout ran 10 to 1 in favor of
the original layout with LEDs at the top. So the new panel design
will look almost exactly like the old, with the addition of a second
switch to control the second ROM, and rebadging to signify its status
as a Wiard/Blacet product. Image here:

Larry and I have decided NOT to hold up people who currently have
panels on order. Those will proceed, and the panels should go to the
silkscreeners around the middle of June. Larry will ask for official
Mini-Wave orders soon, but I'm sure he wouldn't mind an email now
indicating what you wish to order, to help us gauge the interest.

Larry is NOW asking for your official orders for your Miniwave panels. I
can take your orders now and not hold up anything on the process of the
existing panels. Don't worry about the money at this time. They will be
the same price as all 2U Stooge panels. I will get back with you on that
later. Once I see how many we have, I can decide if we have enough metal in
paint process to screen and deliver these with the current order.

So, PLACE your orders now for Blacet MOTM Version MiniWave front panels.
Once I have everyone's order, I can give you the estimated delivery date.
If you don't like the date once I can determine what it is, and want to
cancel if favor of a quicker solution, that is fine. Knowing the MAX number
will help me set the date.

Once again, I wish to apologize for the delay with the current order.
But....
1. The metal shop took twice as long as promised.
2. The painter got sloppy and I am making him do it over again
(only the best for your synth).
3. My cat chewed up the paperwork.
4. My wife erased my hard drive

(OK, I made up excuse # 3 and 4. Hey ! I'm a stooge.
But, we are on track and the delay may just let us squeeze the Minwave into
this order.

Lastly, if my wife feels better today, we are leaving for vacation this
afternoon or tomorrow. So, I may not acknowledge your e-mail or order for a
whole week. I will catch up when I get back.

For those that care about this subject, flat rails are actually IN process
at the metal shop. I am still waiting to hear back from the powder coat
painter with his price before I can set the final price. But, with less
than 1000 pieces, he said he could probably save me some money hanging them
"in-between" larger pieces and squeezing them in with other paint jobs. I
should know all that when I get back.
