MOTM

I was tinkereing around with my modules the other day and I realized a new
use that I hadn't previously thought of. I have 4 MOTM-800 egs and I
sometimes have an extra on in my rack I don't use. I have long wanted a 5v
source to send to a multiple and then to serveral different modules to all
be affected by turning the original 5v source knob from 0v-5v. I was
planning to use the upcoming mixer for this in down time, but then it hit
me.

MOTM-800 EG's put out voltage when you turn up the sustain knob, so I
promplty tuned one of my 800's like this:

attack=0
decay=0
sustain = 0-10 to adjust voltage out
release=0

Simply patch out the positive EG jack to wherever you need the 0-5v signal
and voila!!! Tune the sustain knob and you got it! I also want to try and
patch out the (-) EG out and see if it gives -5v like one would expect. Cool
extra use for an MOTM-800 and a new reason to buy another one. Call Paul
with a flood of orders HA!

and if you set the decay to something other than zero, the voltage will
"slide" up to what you have the sustain set to. i use this a lot. e.g. (no
put intended), for automatic filtersweeps, i'll time it so that the filter
sweeps over X number of beats, set the FM level, and then when i'm doing
stuff all i have to do to sweep the filter is flip the sustain all the way
on or off. this trick is my third hand. :)

What do you use the +5V throught a mult for?

You don't. With nothing plugged into the GATE input, the outputs hold
the voltage as set by the sustain level.

The 800 puts out CV without any gate input. For example, set the 800 as I
described in my previous mail and plug the (+) out to the FM input on one of
your 300'2. Now turn the sustain up and down to see the voltage swing and
effect your 300 VCO. Ken Tkacs (sorry Spelling?) once posted a valuable
schematic to make a 1/4" plug into a bi-polar CV indicator that you can plug
into any socket so check for voltage output (+/-) or to see voltage swings.
I can send you this if you need or want it.

I use the 5v to patch to a multi and then split it to the FM inputs on my
420 and and 440 filters. Then I can set the FM iputs on these modules to all
repond and open or close in unison simply by truning the sustain knob on my
800 EG. Kind of like one knob to control all knobs you want and the settings
per knob can be adjusted to suit your needs with the FM input attenuators.
Or use the EG out to make a master pitch bend for your VCO's if you don't
have one via MIDI or in your controller keyboard.
