of course, i forgot
you could actually find a suitably random lightbulb, point an LDR at it and
use the LDR to attenuate a voltage source, say the sustain control on a
MOTM#800 Envelope Generator, and pipe THAT into the CV input of the voltage
contolled router, adjusting threshold to taste

i now hand over to the stooges to discuss the interfacing practicalities:

Their light source is a cluster of neon bulbs with simple RC charging
circuits attached, each with a different time constant.  LDR feeds lamp
