Almost here - Flat rails for wood case

Almost here - Flat rails for wood case

2001-04-04 by J. Larry Hendry

After some serious arm twisting, pleading, some crying, and blood letting (I
will not say which one of us), Paul and I have agreed that I will produce
flat rails for those of you wanting them for wood cases. The metal shop is
behind, so delivery is still 4 weeks away if I placed the order right now.
The quote is due back to me very soon. So, I should have some firm pricing
in a few days. I will place the order next week. Delivery would be before
May 15.

I am leaning toward 6U wide rails instead of 12U. Here is why:
1 - two 6U same price as one 12 U. Butt them up end-to-end for
combinations of 12, 18, 24, 30.
2 - easier to ship
3 - enough wood screw holes to cut in half (3U) to get that illusive
27U Moog width.
4 - no waste in material.

Unlike the custom panels, these will not be pay up front. They will simply
be - pay, then ship. So, I am not asking for orders. I am not asking for
commitment. All I want to know is how many of you would buy these and how
many do you think you would want. I need some idea of demand to place a
metal shop order. I promise the price will be reasonable.

I plan to have these black dry-power coated like the official MOTM rack
rails. Size would be exactly like what Paul had planned except only 1/2 as
long. I am not stuck on that. I could still go 12U, but someone would have
to make quite a convincing argument to get me to change my mind. You can
offer your opinion on whether you want them painted or not.

Also, while I am on the subject of metal, I will mention that my custom long
and short brackets will be back in stock next week. There are two changes
from the first batch. First, NO PAINTING required. Why, you ask? Because
they are now stainless steel. It was a better deal than paying the painter.
Of course, stainless means a higher price. The new price, long or short, is
$4.

For those of you with custom MOTM style panel orders, the wheels are
turning, just slowly. The metal shop was backed up with some non-sense
about million dollar medical equipment order. So, it has gone a little
slower than we had hoped. But, progress is being made.

Could these easily be cut (cleanly) to give me a total of 20u? I might like
to get these and simply lay them over my brass inserts. Some of my inserts
were off and need to be reworked, but this might be a quick solution. Thanks

Nor am I, I'm just looking for a good time!

Oh, so sorry, wrong list!

I appreciate you taking this on Larry, I know Paul has plenty of fish in the
Friar already, but many of us have been "patiently" waiting on these for some
time.
