[motm] Who wants to buy Moog pointer knobs?

[motm] Who wants to buy Moog pointer knobs?

2001-03-28 by elhardt@aol.com

OK people, here's the story. There are a couple of people, one of them being
me, who need to buy some Moog style 1-1/8" pointer knobs for rotary switches,
and also possibly some regular 1" knobs. This are the same knobs currently
used by Synth.com and Big Briar, and on the original Moog modular and
Minimoog. The company that manufactures them doesn't have any currently in
stock. To get a good price of $1.50 each I need to order 100 pieces for each
style. So I am seeing if there are any people out there who need any of
these, such as pointer knobs for their 831/822 modules, knobs for any
Synth.com DIY modules or products, replacements for broken Moog knobs etc.
The only other way to get these knobs is to pay between $4 to $6 each from a
couple of different places.

So my plan is that if I get enough people who want these knobs I will buy the
100 piece minimums and mail them to those people who want to buy them. So
that would be $1.50 per knob plus about $3 postage (I'll have to see if that
postage is about right). I'm most desperate for pointer knobs (could use
about 20 myself) and if they are the only type others are also want then they
will be the only ones I order. So your job is to e-mail me with how many of
these you want to buy and I will see if I get enough requests to make it
worth while, at which point I'll e-mail you back if it's a go, and you can
mail me a check or other payment and I'll get them ordered.

Note: These knobs will be for 1/4" shafts with a set screw. If somebody
wants a huge number of regular 1" knobs with a D-shaft, I can get those too.
Lead time is about 4 to 6 weeks. Spread the word. I'd like to know what to
do by this weekend if possible.

The proper term is "chicken beak" knobs :)

No, those are called "chicken bake" knobs.

Ken (E.), I might be interested in a few unless Larry (or someone else?) has
specified a "more interesting" knob for the switchers -- these could come in
handy if Moe ever does a run for the Blacet FD too.

I have two 822's on order with Larry. The only knob he specified for those
was the regular MOTM Alco knobs. I'm looking for a little variety in the
look of my MOTM and rotary switches should have pointer knobs. I've searched
all over the place and the only manufacturer that has a pointer knob with a
silver disc ontop and matches the MOTM style is the one I posted to the list.
Davies has a similar pointer knob but they don't have the silver disc,
despite the fact that the artist who drew the picture of it for the Allied
catalog put a silver disc on it. I talked to Davies and it doesn't exist.

So far 4 other people than myself have told me how many knobs they want, 1
will get back to me later and 1 might want some if Larry didn't specify
anything "more interesting". One of those people said he was thinking of
ordering between 50 to 100 regular knobs. If he does that through me, then
I'll definately be getting 100+ regular knobs. Going by the current trend
I'll probably have a commitment for 50 or more pointer knobs by the weekend,
so that will be enough to push me into ordering 100 of them.

So far, I have just used the regular MOTM knobs. They seem to work fine for
rotary switches. And, I have two rotary switches on my Blacet FD module
(MOTM conversion).

However, in the interest if supporting the Ken's addition to this knob, I'll
take some too.

Private e-mail coming Ken....

Just net me know. I have no idea if I will use them. But, you were looking
for people to make your 100 count, so I thought I would chime in since you
bought some of my stuff. :)
Later,
Larry
