Even though I haven't received my 822 modules yet, I was just thinking about
them the other day and realized they would probably work great for alternate
tunings. That includes everything to different subtle Baroque tunings to too
exotic foreign scales. For example, synth bagpipes sound much more realistic
when tuned accordingly.

Just got my Encore UEG on friday. I didn't even realize the times were
voltage controllable before I bought it. Too bad there is no MOTM voltage
inverter so the time can be made to shorten as one moves higher on the
keyboard which is how many acoustic instruments behave. Perhaps if I spend
some time thinking I will figure out a trick to get around this.

Now that I think about it, the MOTM mixer when available might allow this.

Order 1 or more MOTM-830 Mixers and your problem is solved :)

Alternate scales and alternate tunings are two different things. I'm not
interested in greater than 12 note scales. I just want to tune 12 note
scales differently. And I believe that some foreign scales have fewer than
12 notes, so some keys can just not be played. I think bagpipes can only
play whole note intervals for instance. I'll have to check my documentation
on Turkish scales.

Certainly any reversing attenuator will do what you want. What is the
generally expected time frame expected for Mixer shipment Paul.. I guess now
that you are taking orders, it seems that date would be predictable.

Larry,

This sounds very interesting. Are the modifications something you could post on your web site?

Thanks. Scott

19 note equal scale mod to Larry Hendry's 831

2001-03-23 by Jeffrey Pontius

Scott,
I just thought that I would let you know that I'm the one 'dragging his
heels' on implementing Larry's suggestions (Larry was very helpful and
diligent on his part). Given work and a few needed house repairs I haven't
been able to find a sufficiently long enough time block to concentrate on
the mod. It's first on the 'to do synth list'.

Re: [motm] Re: 19 note equal scale mod to Larry Hendry's 822

2001-03-23 by J. Larry Hendry

Thanks Jeff.

Originally, when I finished the first 822 prototype, I figured the 831 would
probably bite the dust. However, while the 822 is more versatile, I find
myself using the 831 a lot more for its "immediate" musical harmonies. They
are really fun to play with when you have 3 or 4 oscillators. However, I
should have included a warning sticker with them that reads, "You will want
more MOTM-300 oscillators once you build this." Before, I was satisfied
with 2 oscillators and a divider on a voice. Now, I'm just not happy unless
I have 3 or 4 oscillators.

Actually, the whole thing came together with subliminal messages. Paul put
some "between the lines" messages in my MOTM-300 instructions for me so I
would design and build the 831. He somehow made me just smart enough to do
it. Then when I wrote the 831 assembly instructions, I included (still
being influenced by his messages in the 300 text) subliminal messages of my
own that say, "Buy more MOTM-300 oscillators."

Hmmmm, actually that should be the 822, not 831 (btw, both great modules -
found them to be much more useful than I originally anticipated).

Ho Ho! Well I see that I am not alone. After finishing the first one I
worked on (831) I ordered a 300 from Paul S. to bring my set up to 3
osc's.
