3rd run Panel request... STEP-ONE BREAKOUT PANEL

3rd run Panel request... STEP-ONE BREAKOUT PANEL

2001-03-05 by revtor@aol.com

First of all, It's great to see an ol' fashioned feature debate going on
again.. The 830 mixer looks great, Paul has done it again. Bravo!!!
Now here's my topic. Has everyone here checked out the Step-One sequencer
from Tidal?
8 mono tracks with note, velocity, and accent levels all variable per step.
And the thing has a 1/4 jack cv/gate expansion board option. 4, 1/4 jacks
per track.. times 8!!!!!!! So I'm psyched to think of all the fun I will be
having with 3 cv's& one gate per track.
-- I really think though that it would be great for anyone here planning to
get one of these to make breakout panels for the voices 1/4 jacks. This
would make patching and using the thing much more user friendly and would
integrate it perfectly with our systems... I was thinking of two voices per
panel (1u) with two jacks per parameter. So that would be 4 parameters per
voice x two jacks per parameter x two voices per panel = 16 jacks per panel.
Four panels for a complete hookup, or one or two to start out.
-- Would anoyone else be interested in breakout panels like this? I will
probalby do it DIY style when the time comes, but if enough interest was
around then we could make it official with the next panel run.. thoughts?

Is that thing a real product, or just a guy making some pcbs? Has
anyone actually seen one.

My first take - where's the knobs?

i most definitely have and am drooling with anticipation... however i
think i'm gonna go the patchbay route myself... i figure i can fill one
nicely with a step one and an expressionist (which won't come for a
while... a LONG while). these three things add up to five rack spaces,
which could easily take the bottom row of a dave fulton-esque case...
which i will be building one of these days... heh...

bleep.
out.

Well, there are already three sequencers that have been thoroughly discussed here.
MOAS
DoMOAS
and a mini sequencer (1X8)
Here is the link that Steve referred to:
;
The FutureRetro Mobius is holding me over until the MOTM sequencers get here.

it's scheduled to ship at the end of march. it's a full box, not just
pcbs.

> My first take - where's the knobs?

there are only four, but this is *not an analogue sequencer*. it has
cv/gate (as an option), yes, but it is digitally controlled... personally,
i will be waiting for our very own motm sequencer to fulfill my analogue
sequencing needs... the step one-assuming it will actually materialize and
do what it says-will more than take care of digital sequencing needs...

bleep.

Make that $550 from a company with no track record. That is if you want CV
and gate. MIDI only other wise.

If you check out their website, everything is coming soon. Paul was
shipping product when I placed my first order with him (#46 or #48 I
believe). And I heard lots of good things on line.

My point was the price with CV and gate is $550. For just a bit more, the
Doepfer MAQ/3 can whomp it IMO.

FutureRetro also had an excellent track record when I purchased my Mobius.

If I learn a bit more, I just might even buy a Step-One. I am interested to
hear the first reviews from users.

But I really want my sequencer to say MOTM (or MOAS or DoMOAS) on it!
