Totally OT: A MS Webmaster is Looking for Work...

2001-02-23 by Tkacs, Ken

This is totally off-topic, but I thought many of you might appreciate this.
Apparently, it is someone's last day over in the web design department at
Microsoft... this link will not last for long, so if you want a laugh,
hurry...

(There is some strong language; I apologize in advance.)

It looks like their webservers are slightly overloaded-- what's it say?

They might have shut it down already. Either that or, yeah, the traffic to
the site might be way up, in which case the Powers That Be will soon
identify the offending page and remove it promptly anyway.

Somebody over there posted a full page, completely properly formatted
white-paper in their knowledgebase called "Read the F-----G Manual" with
links to other white-papers, etc. It was good for a laugh.

I've already saved a copy in case anyone misses it.

I'm curious about the link--is this REALLY on an M$ server or is somebody
pulling a fast one? (even if they are we'll overlook it--this is too funny).

According to my web-savvy friend:

>If you look at the URL carefully, you will see that it doesn't actually
>come from microsoft.com.
>
>Because it contains an @, you connect to www.hwnd.net, using the username
>"www.microsoft.com&item=q209354".

So there you have it. Still absolutely hilarious. If anyone needs it I can
send it to you.

That "at" *is* suspicious, but I've never seen it done that way before. I
will have to research that. If it was "www.hwnd.net?micosoft...." or
something, I could see it, but it's new to me how exactly that URL was
worded. If I could figure it out, I could spoof Stooge Larry's site... ;-)

it appears to be a simple site redirect, you can get the same place by
going to http://www.hwnd.net/pub/mskb/Q209354.asp -Nate

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
