[motm] Final case design & cable holder

[motm] Final case design & cable holder

2001-02-12 by elhardt@aol.com

I'm virtually finished with my final MOTM cases. Once I get one full of
modules I will take a decent picture of it. Below is a url to a step by step
photographic guide to case construction. Also after many years of putting it
off I finally got around to building my adjustable height cable holder.
Picture of it is at the second url below.

Definitely rocks! May I ask where you got your handles, corner
protectors, vinyl covering? I'm planning on making some similar cases
soon myself. I'm still deciding on whether or not to do the vinyl, or
just paint them. Vinyl would be cool, but it looks difficult.

I get all of my case parts from Penn Fabrication (url below). They require a
$50 minimum order and because their prices are pretty cheap you'd probably
have to buy enough stuff to make several cases to pass that limit. Although
somehow I managed to spend $160 there. I just remembered that Mars Music
carries a few of their case parts but at much higher prices.

And I would catagorize using the vinyl covering as more of pain in the ass
and kind of messy than it is difficult. It's nice though because it covers
up not so perfect wood and hides nails. But it is more invovled than paint
especially at the corners of the case. My textured paint test proved to work
out pretty well and might be an alternative.

Thanks,

I'll check it out for sure. I probably will go with paint actually.
I've never made cases before, so it would probably be alot safer.
Textured paint is what I was thinking too. It looks much nicer.

What are you using for a cable holder? Did you make that metal
"comb" thing? Did you buy it? I have been thinking about building
something like you have done. I really like how you have it mounted
on a movable stand.

Another interesting cable holder that mounts to the wall (or rack).
