If the utility panels were 1U wide 5U tall MOTM-panels then one could kind of "mix and match" utility elements more to taste, rather than trying to blend everything on a 1U wide rack panel ... it doesn't solve the "cords in front of knobs" problem, though. On the other hand, my personal taste isn't bothered at all by cords in front of knobs -- I use pretty hefty patchcords (from Sweetwater Sound) and a two-footer is more straight out from the panel than drooping! So here's one more suggested mix of utility panels in the MOTM form factor: (1) Two DC sources, plus eight mult jacks (10 jacks total), wire the mults as you please, including rear pass-throughs or whatever. (2) Two reversing CV attenuators and a simple DC-coupled linear VCA (attenuator with CV instead of knob; 7 jacks total) (3) Sixteen mult jacks, wire as you please; I guess I'd like a 1:3 ratio of 1/8" to 1/4" but other people will have other mixes. One each of these three would be just about right for me, but on the other hand I'm the one thinking them up ... :) In any case it might be good to let us each pick our own wiring pattern for the mults -- I like clusters, Larry likes families ... my 0.018 Euro, Chris
