Longshot idea..

2000-12-18 by Steve Maietta

Paul,
Here's a longshot idea for you.. (as if MOTM wasn't enough "work"
for you)
ever consider a 3 or so rack space (or table top) monophonic synth
unit? Kinda like a pulse (that's the mono Waldorf thing right?)
Just a MIDI in and thru and Cv/gate in's as well of course.. a
SynthTech non modular synth. Studio grade, to go along with the
Vocoder (VOTM?)and DoMoas systems.
Allright, Yeah. yeah this can be done with modules so why don't
the people just go out and buy modules!? I don't know why they
don't, I did, but I bet it would be a seller if it was priced right
and advertised right. We all know the mystique MOTM has as being the
ultimate. I would guess that some people are just on the market
for "One more voice" and not ready to delve into a whole Modular
system.
Perhaps a PCB based kit ala the evenfall MiniModular, but not
patchable. dual osc, dual filters one based on the 440 one a
var.state ala the 420, two or so simple LFo's (syncable) and an env
or two.. maybe a ring mod. Or make it totally unique. As the 777
has tons of FM stuff going on which gives it a unique voice, you
could make this thing different somehow. Maybe one osc, two 120's
five LFO's-- Pitch, 120#1 cross, 120#2 cross, fliter1 and filter2.
Add two filters, ADSR and VCA of course as well...? Weird is cool.
maybe this is just nonsense, maybe I just love checking out new
gear, maybe we don't need yet another monophonic single voice synth,
who knows. But i got the idea when I was reading the old posts about
Paul's original idea of putting a MooG system 35 on a circut board.
I just thought it was a cool idea for us to toss around.. (better
than steak and veggie food, even better than DoctorPepper!!! : )
