You could open up the plug on a pair of stereo phones and put a jumper 
between the tip and ring.  Or if you still want to use the stereo phones on 
stereo, you could make a small patch cable with a stereo inline jack on one 
end, a mono plug on the other, and wire the tip and ring together in the plug.
