Well I don't know. If you take the current EG, you can't modulate it at all. If I placed a knob where the trigger button is located, one would think it's associated with stage 8 simply because of it's location. There isn't room to put a pot anywhere else. I think if there was a choice between trigger switch and modulation attenuator, the trigger switch is more useful on a day to day basis. Remember, I didn't have either one just a few days ago.
