I have built a copy of the EMS filter bank once, and I like its smooth sound a lot. The filters aren't very steep, which is part of its character. There are 741's in the original, but there are also a lot of polystyrene caps, and the overall impression of its quality is very good, despite the poor opamps. It's also built with very low impedance (large caps, very small resistors). Personally I would not build a commercial clone of this - EMS is an active company - and I suppose Paul shares this point of view. But there's a lot of other options for a filter bank ... JH.
