Yeah, plugs are another good way to go. You can buy a "plug cutter" for an
electric drill, and make them out of the same wood as the cabinet in order
to cover screw heads. If you're careful you can probably even match the
grain pretty well.

I'm not familiar with Polyurethane glue--I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

Just a note on glue: that polyurethane wood glue is really strong. It's
a bit messy to work with but that's glue for you....
It foams up and fills cracks really well.

For cabinets, there is always the glue and screw technique. You can even
recess the screw and get those plugs to cover up the heads.
