From: revtor@... Guys, I want to build a spring reverb module and am looking at the Paia Hot Springs as the only kit reverb out there. I (of course) want to build it behind a MOTM panel so It is fully compatible with my system. Do any of you who have built this or know the dimensions of the reverb tanks think that they and the circut board and the jacks and pots needed will fit behind a 2u panel.. 3u?? All I need to know is if anyone thinks that this is possible.. Then I'm going to order the kit. I know I can make it work but any real info would be helpful. I should keep spring reverbs away from power supplies right?? ------------------------- Steve, The tanks won't fit as Ken T pointed out. Everything BUT the tanks would however easily fit behind a MOTM 1U panel. However, if you plan to mix any of your MOTM gear with standard 19" rack gear, the hot springs tanks and all can be mounted in a 1U rack format very nicely. I did mine that way before I had ever thought of putting stuff in a MOTM format (maybe before MOTM was born). I took a 1U 19" rack blank and attached two of those corner braces on the back (often called "L" brackets). I cut a piece of 1/8" flat aluminum 16'"X 6.5" and attached it to the corner braces. So it provides a shelf for the tanks and circuit board all to bolt onto. My tanks are only 2.25 X 9.25. So, I may have different ones than Ken. Anyhow, the whole thing fit nicely behind a 1U 19" rack. I recommend mounting the tanks over a piece of metal like I did for shielding from the bottom. If you mount them on the inside of a wood case, maybe the aluminum foil trick on the wood under the tank would be good enough. The recovery amp on the output has quite a bit of gain. I did not change the circuit as Ken suggested to be able to balance input and output signals. I tend to run my effects in effect loops rather than as stand alone units. However, MOTM does lend itself toward that stand alone format. So, if I was doing one to build into my MOTM system, I would probably do like Ken suggested. I think I would have a 1U panel with 3 pots and 4 jacks. The pots would be 1. input gain (controlling the gain of the input current driver) 2. output gain (controlling the gain of the output amp) and 3. mix so an effects loop is not required. I was thinking the 4 jacks might be 2 in and 2 out with one set of each being normalized for line level and one for MOTM level. If I was going to all that trouble, which sound like fun BTW, I would probably just re-do the circuit on a MOTM protoboard so I could board mount all the pots and fit it up spiffy on a MOTM panel and just buy the tanks. PAiA does sell just the tanks separately. Stooge Larry
