That's it!!--that's definitely the LP I'm thinking of. I'd love to get that on CD as well. I also knew a guy that had an album called "2001...Volume 2" which was music inspired by the film. Essentially, it was "Also Spach..." second movement, a different Ligeti piece (perhaps "Nouvelle Adventures") etc. Oh well; back to restoring the "Andromeda Strain" soundtrack. -----Original Message----- From: Fred Becker To: motm@egroups.com Sent: 04/15/2000 6:37 PM Subject: Re: [motm] 2001 (Was: guru's of electronic music ) A bit off-topic, but I have the LP of this "alternate" 2001 music. It is not directly related to the movie, but rather a spinoff album. Or perhaps it did pre-date the movie. There is no date on the cover, as Columbia never did that. So here are detail from the sleeve: Front Cover: ORMANDY / Philadelphia Orchestra / BERSTEIN / New York Philharmonic / Perform Selections from 2001 A Space Odyssey With the Greggs Smith Singers Added Electronic Effects by Morton Subotnik Music from Blomdahl's Opera ANIARA / An Epic of Space Flight in 2038 A.D.
