I'm afraid that even the little pieces of plastic would not have
protected them. One of the knobs, actually had the piece of aluminium
punched out by the pot shaft.

Oh, it wasn't an April fool unfortunately, its considered bad luck here
if you try a joke after midday. Mind you, what's midday here, is eight
in the morning for others... so perhaps I could have got away with it.
