Just a thought, on the spring loaded or not joystick.

My AKS Synthi is a non-spring loaded type, and the tension on it is perfect -
sitting, which causes the spring reverb to ring when using the speakers, or standing.

You know, I remember those joysticks that you could release the spring on - seems to 
I also remember one for my old C-64 that could be un-sprung on both axis's with the
flip of two switchs.  I will have to check in the basement to see if I still have it.
