Hey, that Word document was a great idea-thanks! You're right: "Go search the archives" is the kind of lazy, irritating answer to questions on lists like this that are very off-putting to people, new & experienced alike. I myself have been the victim of that (not necessarily on *this* list)-you search the archives for hours, can't find what you're looking for, and then ask the question in the forum only to have five cranky people respond with "Go search the archives." In the amount of time it took them to type that retort, they could have answered my question in most cases. (Plus most of these archive search engines leave a LOT to be desired). An Email list like this is very similar to a conversation. Would you have a conversation with someone and every time they asked a question, snap at them, "Why don't you go to the library"? If we want to encourage others to join us in our little corner of heaven, we should endeavor to be helpful. Again, not that people on this list aren't helpful-I guess I'm thinking more of "another" list dedicated to analog synthesizer enthusiasm. My experience here with the MOTM crowd has been that there are a lot of very clever, very supportive folks on this list. And since most of us keep off-topic inquiries to a reasonable level, we've avoided all that hostility as well. -----Original Message----- From: J. We do owe those new to the list a response better than "go search the archives" ...
