I ended up going with some thick felt between the cabinets. I cut the felt about 1/2" smaller than the top of each cabinet. I was surprised that there was reasonable friction. Each cabinet was solid but would slide if you really pushed on them. I put a photo on the main page at http://modularsynthesis.com/ I polished up a piece of 1" aluminum that I ran down each side with a stainless wingnut and stud into each pivot mount of the cabinet to tie them all together. It holds them pretty firm and looks pretty sharp since it adds some shininess to dress up the sides.
