RE: [motm] MOTM 100 -> 101 mods?

2008-08-25 by John L Rice

Hi Steven,

Hey, I've gots my favorite butter knife and a ball-peen hammer and knows how
to use them so I ain't afeared! ;-)

Actually I've done a lot of stuff in the past (DIY, Heathkit, DIY, PAIA,
DIY, a little circuit design and I even brought a dead Minimoog and Synergy
back to life once! ;-), but it has been many years since I've really done
anything to speak of and I'm just getting back to it this year.

I was poking around and found these shots of a modified 100 but it's only
the addition of the vibrato selector switch which is really obvious on how
to do. It's seems pretty obvious that adding the slew control would require
extra circuitry not already on the board and probably not worth the effort
since I could patch into an external one etc. And I do like the way it
looks now! ;-) The one below may still be available for $110 unless his web
site is out of date:

In fact, Marvin Jones (who is selling the MOTM 100) is probably well known
to a lot of people in the DIY/modular synth communities! J

Thanks for the response.

My guess is that unless you're completely up to speed with performing the
modifications involved (and I don't know what they are or if they're even
feasible also), and have the parts and tools required on hand already, you'd
be better served by selling the 100 and just buying a new 101. I'm not
absolutely sure about the market, but I'd bet there's someone out there
reading this who'd be willing to pay a fair price very near to the price of
a 101 for your bit of history.

I purchased a used MOTM 100 and I was wondering if someone could point
me to some instructions/schematic so I can modify my 100 to have the
same additional features as the 101 (assuming it's possible?)

Thanks!

John
