Well the Polyfusion modular synth keyboard and my Wersi bass pedals both use
reed switches.  They're enclosed in a glass tube so they never corrode or
get dirty.  All you do is pass a magnet infront of them and the contact
closes.  I've seen them for sale at Mouser's, and probably elsewhere.
