Hey John -

Have you seen Ken Stone's little mixer?  Super easy to build (coming 
from a complete goof at this DIY stuff) and it has 6 ins.  You could 
put one together for cheap and add LFOs as you suggested.  And throw in 
a random source, too, just for the heck of it!
