I do it in either of these two ways:

1. Plug your external signals into a mixing board. Use the auxiliary 
sends on the mixing board to feed your MOTM, I can usually crank 
these outputs up to MOTM levels.

2. Hack your MOTM-830 so that each channel has a gain of at least 1.0 
(or use an Oakley Multimix if you have one) and plug your external 
signal into several inputs and turn them all to 11.
