Went to the Robert Rich show in Des Moines last night - many thanks to elle_web and hiw wife for hosting this event. A great time was had by all! I got to meet Robert for the first time after having corresponded with him via email for the last few years. I was honored to have several stooge panels serving in his system. He played 2 sets, reversed in order because his normal first set is accompanied by a movie, and there was enough natural light in the room to make it desirable to wait until sunset to show it. That worked out better as far as I was concerned - he ended up playing a lot of his earlier (MOTM-less) material first. The second set had several cuts from Bestiary and Electric Ladder which were satisfyingly glorpy. I finally was able to link the slide guitar with the sounds I was hearing on the CDs. It is inspiring to see him play his entire rig - 3 ancient keyboards, modular, flutes, steel guitar, mixer and effects, as one big instrument. Robert is a super nice guy and has an embarrasingly sensible idea about not being much of a gear slut - he would rather make music with what he's got than chase after the latest and greatest (hanging my head in shame). Having said that though, we both agree - RELEASE THE CLOUD GENERATOR! Moe
