I still think that the solution is clear plastic strips, I shaped, with the top and bottom section of the 'I' being secured underneath the panel's screw mounts, and with a white/whatever line silkscreened on the narrow part. This sort of thing *seems* easy enough to do, assuming you could find the right company (companies?) to cut the plastic and do the silkscreening.
