Chris, The only issue would be if you held heat too long against a component. 700 degrees is kind of a standard temp for most irons. Higher tip temps are no problem if one understands that you should hold the iron in place as long as a lower temp tip. It is not uncommon to see 800+ degree irons used in production environments, but it takes a bit more skill to use, IMO. It is probably best for DIY users to have a 700 degree setting.
