While I have been getting no synth related work done at all, my cabinet maker has been hard at work putting together my personal cabinets that will add to my existing 4 row x 24U set up many of you have already seen. After making and shipping more than 20 cabinets to others, I finally got him back on track to make my cabinets. I have been out of space for a long time. My original cabinet maker quit after he made the first 3. The concept for my cabinets came from my desire to combine the slant front look of the Moog cabinets with the wrap around functionality of the Roland System 700 wing cabinets. My other desire was to make a percentage of my modular space set up for mounting on the 19" rails so that I can mix and match MOTM modules into the same cabinet with my 19" rack gear that will also reside in that cabinet. That will include my Kenton MIDI2CV, a PAiA vocoder, and s few other select items. The bottom cabinet is set up for the magic buss just like my center cabinets. The top cabinets are simply a 12U high x 19" rack size. These cabinet nest up to my main cabinets so there is no gap between. The inverted near triangle space in the corners will have a metal panel that will house joysticks and push buttons and perhaps a theremin-like antenna for generating CV controls. http://www.wiseguysynth.com/larry/cabinet/wing-cabinets.jpg In a couple of weeks I get to pick these up and bring them how for finishing. The bottom space holds 2 rows of 8U wide each. The top cabinet holds of course up to 2 rack rails sets. So, these cabinets add 72 U of space for MOTM modules and 4 19" rack U tall. It is my plan to stop at 168U (96+72). However, the astute will notice that since these cabinets have a 45 degree angle, that I could double this exact setup and end up with a horseshoe console. capable of holding 240U. (96+72+72) Larry :-)
