Pots and Knobs (no real MOTM content)

Allow me to borrow some list expertise.  I'm putting together a DIY 
project and have found a good cheap D-shaft knob that I'd like to use.  
Any thoughts on the merits of D-shaft versus set-screw pots/knobs?
