I have been using an Edsyn fume extractor

which seems to do a reasonable job of keeping the fumes away from my face
as long as the fan is within 1 - 1.5 feet of where I am placing the
solder.  The ones I am referring to on the above url are immediately under
Bench Top - little fans on slim adjustment poles.
