I've put MOTM style knobs onto D-type pot shafts. I didn't get any 
kind of special knob for D-shafts, I used the standard knob. The set 
screw just goes onto the flat part of the shaft. More significant is 
whether or not the pot is attached to a PCB or is mounted to the 
front panel. Best if it's mounted to the front panel, otherwise you 
can have a knob whose minimum position is 4 o'clock and whose maximum 
position is 2 o'clock.
