Heck, I paid $2500 for mine, what a deal :) Anyway: I'd use Omron snap-action switched from Mouser (www.mouser.com). They can get pretty small, and have a nice "click" to them like a mouse button. Then, each on can runn off a 9V battery, a low-power voltage reference (say 2.50V) and use a 20-turn trim pot to tune the 'note' CV out. Paul S.
