I can understand how it would make more sense to group the modules that are creating a specific "part" of a sequence together (so that it is easier to tweak that part without having to search for a particular filter/oscillator/EG by following patch cords). If I were playing live (which I'm not) and if I was using the same patches night after night on a tour, I'd probably arrange the modules into mini-synth globules, just to make things easier for my tiny brain. Anybody here who uses their MOTM live care to comment?
