Sorry for the last post-an mistake...

Grouping by function only works if you use the module for it's 
intended purpose.  I keep a couple of VCA's next to the VCO's for 
modulating before the filters, LFO's scattered, and since my filters 
are often the last module before the final mixer, they're probably 
the most closely grouped.

I think it's totally up to the user.  These aren't Minimoogs we're 
playing with here...
