MOTM

I think the answer depends partly on what size and shape cabinets you 
use.  I have a couple of dot com cabinets with Stooge rails fitted.  These 
are four feet wide (26U).  I have Miniwaves and VCAs center, surrounded by 
three different types of EG (6 in all).  Currently, I have all the VCOs in 
the upper left corner, filters in the upper right, LFOs (2 MOTM-320, 2 
MOTM-290, 1 MOTM-380) in the lower right and the embedded LFOs just above 
in the MOTM-410/OMS-410 and Oakley Equinox.  The lower left catches the 
oddball modules including S&H and random sources.  Small mixing modules are 
scattered about.  With these long cabinets I'm resigned to needing some 
5-foot patch cords (on the next Stooge cable order, yup).  The way I work, 
almost everything gets patched to everything at some point.  And I don't 
have "standard" patches.  I'm still divided over whether to spread around 
the LFOs or keep them together.  But it's not really critical.  Just buy 
long patch cords!  (Anybody want some 1-footers?  I've got about 8 too many.)

It's more important to decide which modules you'll get, than where they'll 
fit in the cabinets.  I do admit to spending a good bit of time day 
dreaming about where modules already ordered are going to go.  The 
placement I've ended up with bears little resemblance to all those drawings 
I made.  But they were fun to do.

When you first put a system together it's to be expected you'll move 
modules around until you find a comfortable arrangement and then it will 
stay that way for a while (until you give in and buy more modules).
