Much preferred over both. I have long been a fan of the mellotron sound. I have the Pinder mellotron sample set as well as a sample set done by Emu for the Emulator line. A lot of these are unlooped with samples for every key. Unfortunately many of the samples are very noisy and out of tune (in other words just like the real thing.) I have even gone so far as to buy an Emu Custom Proteus and burn my own mellotron banks. Having said all that, I don't have a Vintage Pro yet, but my birthday is next week and I'm hoping for one then. I have auditioned one at length at the local music store and was quite impressed by the Electric Piano, Clav and Synth sounds as well as the mellotron sounds. I would note that the Hammond sounds were somewhat disappointing. The mellotron sounds are looped and there are certainly not individual 8 second samples for each key, but the flavor and sound of the original is captured very well. Possibly even better than the full sample sets I have for the E IV. I used to have one of the original Vintage Keys modules. I was never particularly impressed with it. I sold it recently to help support my addiction (MOTM.) -----Original Message----- From: jhaible [SMTP:jhaible@...] Sent: Saturday, June 14, 2003 4:41 PM To: motm@yahoogroups.com; paulhaneberg Subject: Re: [motm] Re: More Pawn Shop Booty > BTW, the new EMU Vintage Proteus module has the best mellotron > samples I've ever heard, much preferred over the original and much > less expensive as well. Much preferred over the original Vintage Keys, or much preferred over the original Mellotron ? (;->) Are the samples full length (no loops) and a different sample for each key? (Should not be difficult with today's typical memory size, but have they done it that way ?) JH.
