Speaking of switches... (okay, so we were really talking pushbuttons ;) 
These NKK illuminated toggles look pretty neat and apparently they come in the 
paddle variety:

 Too bad these are subminiature, and PCB mount. They might look cool when 
actuated. The whole toggle lights up! (yes, simple things amuse me):
