I did some side-by-side tests and even posted some MP3s long ago but they 
are gone now.  My *opinion* is that the 490 is very close to the sound of a 
904A.  That said, I have two 904A's that sound different so it is 
unrealistic to expect any filter to match, especially in such a subjective 
test.  The 490 has the essence of the 904A and sounds great!  The interface 
isn't quite the same so it doesn't quite "feel" like a 904A when you are 
working with it, especially in the resonance dept. (this topic has been 
covered before and there are mods to make the filter resonate at a higher 
knob setting.)

It is a great sounding filter and, as it has already been mentioned, that 
is the most important part.
