volts/amps measurement

2003-04-22 by Roger Rossen

Hi all,

In regards to the recent hubbub on volts/amps displays for the power
supplies - I've been checking out various options myself...still
don't know if I'm going to use a VU type led bargraph, converted for
DC volts and amps - or a digital display (LED not LCD).

These are a fairly cheap option:

scroll down 2-3 kits...

This is only the site I've found tonite but there are a zillion
little 'kit' sites with volt/amp meters of the digital variety out
there. Some a bit cheaper.

While the 7-segment LEDS they come with are too big for me, with
alittle searching you can find smaller ones to retrofit, etc...they
come in all colors...purple? yeah cool...

The ones below are quite cool, but expensive (sorry in advance to
the 'blue' LED haters but these display, as you can see, are NOT that
blast beam of blue from the clear LEDs (don't know if I like them
myself yet either.)
but these 3-1/2 digit display are only 1.3in. across (really small)

You could get one for voltage and have a selector switch, switch
between the rails...

I may be doing the bargraph type or even a three LED
hivolt/correctvolt/low volt indicator with a rather simple comparator
circuit. many possibilities here - just to throw some out...

just my 2 cents - hope it may help someone.

I hope Paul isn't cringing too much with all this LED talk as of late-
laughs. With the recent announcement of more kits getting shipped
soon, we need to be real nice for our summer Christmas gifts!!

Rog
