Although this economy is the worst I've seen, I too am thankful for what I have. Although I'm a business owner and better off than most, I've seen my income fall by two thirds, not to mention what has happened to my retirement plan. I've had to lay off roughly a third of my workforce as well. I still consider myself lucky. My wife and I have three healthy kids. There is food on the table and a roof over our heads. There are signs that the economy will improve over the next year. We've seen a slight rise in business in the last 3 or 4 months after declining almost every month for three years, and we tend to be 6 to 12 months ahead of the overall economy for some reason. I personally think that the present tough times are the direct result of too many jobs, both skilled and unskilled being exported to China and India in too short a time, due to a combination of excessive corporate greed and the government making it so hard to be an employer in the US. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers and would suggest we all pray for our leaders as well, who have the difficult task of guiding our country through these rough times.
