Surface Mount Devices

2002-10-02 by sucrosemusic

Well, the article is in somewhat bad taste (the nickname of the
person who wrote it is a bit crude), but it's probably worth looking
it. It details a serious hackjob for hand-soldering durface mount
devices with pin spacings of 0.5mm. It appears to work, but WOW what
a hack. Still, it's pretty interesting.

I'm posting this here because a while ago there was a debate over if
we should use SMDs in some of the more wacky kitss or not. This
could, theoretically, help (though I'm not sure if this technique
would actually work for the more 'friendly' pin spacings).
