You might want to take a look at 
http://www.seventhcirclestudios.com/N72/N72.htm. This is a kit for a 
clone of the Neve 1272 mic preamp. I heard about it through the 
tapeop.com message board. The guy who sells the kit was pretty 
disappointed at the initial sales of the kit, so I'm not sure if 
they're still available, but he has talked recently about some other 
kits, including an optical compressor. I'm hoping to build a couple 
of N72's when cash flow permits.
