The economy seems to be finally heating up. While that is a good thing the recession caused most suppliers and manufacturers to cut inventory to the bone. As orders increase so do lead times. I've heard of lead times for some parts being out 3 or 4 months or more. In the steel industry the mills are asking for orders 12 months in advance and are giving preferential treatment to large customers and those who pay their bills on time. It's my guess that we'll be looking at longer lead times and shortages for a while unless the economy dips again. Certainly a mixed blessing!
